In English this week, we brainstormed about a project every class is doing. The project could be about anything, as long as it’s innovative and something you can do but doubt yourself so that you can’t do it. So, thinking about that, I thought about something most people like to see and hear, but not to write it themselves. It’s also in the sprit of the holidays too!
That one song that is cute yet at the same time super annoying? I bet you know what it is. It’s the one boat ride with dolls… Still no? Well… It’s A Small World.!! The holidays means that the entire ride is redecorated and the song is replaced with different words. If you’ve noticed (or maybe not), the dolls sing “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls”, however, the songwriters changed the lyrics when we come to the scene with the mermaids. Instead of singing the typical “jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way…”, the three mermaids sing:
“Jingle shells, Jingle shells, Jingle all the way! Oh what fun it is to ride in a seahorse-open sleigh, oh! Jingle shells, Jingle shells, Jingle all the way! Oh what fun it is to ride in a seahorse-open sleigh! Dashing through the foam, on a seahorse we sashe, or the waves we go, laughing all the way (ha ha ha!) Shells on bobbles gleam, making treasure bright, what fun it is to sing a mermaid’s song tonight, oh!”
I think that’s a pretty clever play on words, and it seems pretty simple and easy. I think I’ll try this for another Christmas song!
